Scripture Lesson                              John 1: 43-51   New Living Translation                                    Darrell Jones

43 The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Come, follow me.” 44 Philip was from Bethsaida, Andrew and Peter’s hometown. 45 Philip went to look for Nathanael and told him, “We have found the very person Moses[a] and the prophets wrote about! His name is Jesus, the son of Joseph from Nazareth.” 46 “Nazareth!” exclaimed Nathanael. “Can anything good come from Nazareth?” “Come and see for yourself,” Philip replied.47 As they approached, Jesus said, “Now here is a genuine son of Israel—a man of complete integrity.”48 “How do you know about me?” Nathanael asked. Jesus replied, “I could see you under the fig tree before Philip found you.”49 Then Nathanael exclaimed, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God—the King of Israel!” 50 Jesus asked him, “Do you believe this just because I told you I had seen you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than this.” 51 Then he said, “I tell you the truth, you will all see heaven open and the angels of God going up and down on the Son of Man, the one who is the stairway between heaven and earth”.

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

What’s up at ZUMC:

The church office will be closed tomorrow, Monday, January 18, due to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday.

We will celebrate Human Relations Day with a special offering next Sunday, January 24, 2021. According to the website resourceumc.org, our gifts will help support:

  • grants to promote ministries that respond to non-violent youth offenders through education, advocacy, or leadership training and development.
  • organizations and congregations that fight economic, racial, and social injustices.
  • grants to racial, ethnic, and multicultural congregations to hire community developers to empower the underserved.

If you can give to this worthwhile cause, please make your check out to ZUMC with "Human Relations Day Special Offering" on the memo line. Thank you! Your gifts do indeed change lives! 😃

Pausing In-Person Worship: Here’s an important announcement from the Leadership Team of the ZUMC Church Council: Due to rising COVID-19 cases in our state and in order to prevent the spread of COVID through our in-person worship gatherings, we will be pausing our in-person Sunday services through the end of January. We plan to joyfully resume in-person worship services on Sunday, February 7, 2021, at 10 am. Of course, our online services will continue uninterrupted. We pray that everyone will be safe and well during these difficult times. Thank you so much for your support and understanding.

Your faithful support of our church and missions means a lot to the Lord and to ZUMC! You can mail your gifts to God to the church at 121 W. Gannon Ave., Zebulon, NC, 27597 or drop off your offering in the mail slot on the back door of the church office. Also, our Annual Conference has provided a secure link for giving, which is sent back to our church. This can be found on our church website: www.zumchurch.org. Please note that we are in the Heritage District.

Coming soon: On Camp Sunday, February 28, Dail Ballard will worship with us and give the message.  Dail is the Executive Director of NC United Methodist Camp and Retreat Ministries.  It will be a blessing to have Dail with us and hear about the wonderful impact camp can make!

Pausing In-Person Services

Due to rising COVID-19 cases in our state and in order to prevent the spread of COVID through our in-person worship gatherings, we will be pausing our in-person Sunday services, beginning this Sunday, December 27, through the end of January. We plan to joyfully resume in-person worship services on Sunday, February 7, 2021, at 10 am. Of course, our online services will continue uninterrupted. Sunday, January 3, 2021, is Epiphany Sunday! We will celebrate The Love Feast together virtually, so please grab a delicious baked item or bread for this special time in the service. Let us plan to think of a blessing from God that we can share with others or jot down on paper to share later. Everyone is invited to make a donation to our wonderful Food Pantry in honor of our Love Feast. Thanks so much for helping to feed the hungry in our community. Go, ZUMC!
