Prelude "Lord Listen To Your Children" (Hanson-Murakami) Kara Zaharin

Welcome Ashley Mitchell

Opening Prayer

God of wind and fire and tongues, God of visions and dreams and prophecies, God of signs and wonders, out your Spirit upon us.
You raised up Peter to preach Jesus to a skeptical audience, and with the two-edged sword of Peter’s word you cut through the armor of a crooked generation, you pricked their hearts and saved them. You sent your Spirit to assail hard hearts. You sent repentance and faith, baptism and forgiveness, teaching and fellowship, communion, and prayer. Great God, send your Spirit to save us too.

Opening Hymn- Hymn 141 "Children of the Heavenly Father"

Scripture Lesson. Matthew 10: 24-39 Ashley Mitchell

New International Version (NIV)

24 “The student is not above the teacher, nor a servant above his master. 25 It is enough for students to be like their teachers and servants like their masters. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebul, how much more the members of his household!

26 “So do not be afraid of them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed or hidden that will not be made known. 27 What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs. 28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.[a] 30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

32 “Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. 33 But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.

34 “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to turn

“‘a man against his father,
a daughter against her mother,
a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law—

36 a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’[b]

37 “Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39 Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.

Affirmation of Faith: A Modern Affirmation

Minister: Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is the one true Church, apostolic and universal, whose holy faith let us now declare:

Minister and People:

We believe in God the Father, infinite in wisdom, power, and love, whose mercy is over all his works, and whose will is ever directed to his children's good.

We believe in Jesus Christ, Son of God and Son of man, the gift of the Father's unfailing grace, the ground of our hope, and the promise of our deliverance from sin and death.

We believe in the Holy Spirit as the divine presence in our lives, whereby we are kept in perpetual remembrance of the truth of Christ and find strength and help in times of need.

We believe that this faith should manifest itself in the service of love as set forth in the example of our blessed Lord, to the end that the kingdom of God may come upon the earth. Amen.

-Our families have been blessed and cared for.

-Our great team of Brent, Cynthia, Kara, Ashley, Randy, Linda, and David helped pull this video worship experience together. We also give thanks for Ashley Mitchell and others who have been spreading our Good News on Facebook and other social media.

-Birthdays this week-

-Pause to recount your joys.

-Friends and neighbors, near and far, facing trouble.

- All the attitudes and beliefs that divide us and cause us to feel separate from and superior to others.

-Patience, grace, and mercy for all of us.

Pastoral Prayer and The Lord's Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
