Clyde Denny is the pastor of Zebulon United Methodist Church, where he was appointed in June 2016.

Clyde was born to Herman Denny and Elizabeth (Lib) Hoffman Denny, a church organist and school teacher, and was raised in Burlington, North Carolina. He graduated from Western Alamance High School, and after an attempt to study opera at UNC-Greensboro, transferred and graduated from N.C. State University with a B.S. in Recreation and Parks Administration, wanting to be a back-country park ranger. The Lord had other plans.

He met Leigh Stewart when her parents moved to Burlington and joined Lib's church choir at David Street UMC. Leigh is an accomplished pianist, having studied at Elon and UNC-Greensboro. Clyde began his ministry part time after attending a Bible college in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and worked as a hardwood flooring salesman and as a District Executive for the Boy Scouts of America, until finally answering a call to full-time ministry in 1986.

Clyde graduated from Duke Divinity School in 1990, and has served churches in Burlington, Mebane, Ocracoke, Windsor, Elizabeth City, Rocky Mount, Wilmington, and most recently, Siler City. His focus is on spiritual direction, pastoral counseling, disaster relief, and community service.

Leigh has continued her music profession, most recently having played for the Chapel in the Pines Presbyterian Church in Pittsboro. She also sings with the Women’s Voices Chorus of Chapel Hill. Clyde and Leigh have three adult sons -- Nathan, Aaron, and Joel -- and are adding two daughters-in-law to the family in 2017.

Clyde is a woodworker, fly fisherman and fly tier, and an aspiring beekeeper. Leigh loves piano and singing, and photography. They both enjoy hiking, attending concerts, gardening, and dining out.
